About us

Nocrich Scout Centre – H. C. Habermann is the first scout centre in Romania. We opened our doors in 2010, bringing together the energy, ideas and hard work of scouts, volunteers and friends from Romania and around the world.

Our story is closely connected to the place we call home. The centre is located in a former parochial house of the Evangelical Church, built in 1796, in the heart of Nocrich — a traditional Transylvanian Saxon village full of history. Getting the centre to where it is today was a long process. Over the years, many people have helped renovate the house, build the centre and shape it into what it is today.

And this is still a big part of who we are.

A place for everyone

We mean it when we say that Nocrich Scout Centre is a place that belongs to everyone. Scouting is at the heart of what we do, but you don't have to be a scout to be part of Nocrich. You can come here to volunteer, learn something new, spend time in nature, meet people, come with your group, discover the village or simply enjoy being here.

Over the years, many of these people have become part of what we like to call the Nocrich Family.

Traditions

We want to preserve and share the cultural heritage of the region that welcomed us and became our home. Traditional pottery is one of the ways we do this, keeping local techniques and knowledge alive and giving people the chance to experience them for themselves.

We offer pottery workshops for everyone, guiding you through the process and helping you create something of your own — and take a little piece of Nocrich home with you.

Community

Being part of Nocrich also means being part of the local community. Over the years, we have built connections with people from the village and worked together on projects that create opportunities for learning, sharing and spending time together.

Every week, we organise activities for children from the village, many of whom are from the Roma community. Our aim is to create a safe and welcoming space where they can learn new skills, build confidence, discover new possibilities and simply have fun.

Our mission

At the centre of everything we do is a simple idea: to create a place where young people can grow, explore and learn through experience.

Scouting guides the way we work, with values like responsibility, leadership, friendship and teamwork at the heart of what we do. We believe in learning by doing and giving young people the space to try things for themselves, take responsibility and discover what they are capable of.

What we do

A big part of Nocrich is the activities we create for children from the local community and for scout groups. From outdoor games and hands-on activities to traditional crafts, there is always something to discover.

Our traditional pottery activities give children the chance to work with clay, get creative and discover a craft that has been part of the local culture for generations. Our camping areas give scout groups the space to spend time outdoors, learn together and enjoy the simple experience of living and learning in nature.

These activities are simple, practical and fun, but they are also about much more: learning to work together, being curious, becoming more independent and enjoying the experience of doing something with your own hands.

Our place

We are lucky to be part of a village with a strong history and a unique culture, and we want that to be part of the Nocrich experience.

The village, its heritage, the people around us and the natural environment all shape what we do. We try to take care of what we have, learn from the place we are in and help others discover and appreciate it too.

Looking ahead

Nocrich has changed a lot since 2010, and it is still growing.

What happens next will be shaped by the people who come here, the ideas they bring and the things we build together. We want to keep Nocrich open and welcoming — for scouts, volunteers, young people, the local community and anyone who wants to be part of it.

There is still a lot to do, and we are happy to have you along for the journey.
